The No. 15 BMW M Hybrid V8 finished eighth at the Lone Star Le Mans, while the No. 20 missed the points after a difficult return from the summer break.
A TOUGH MORNING AFTER A STRONG FIRST HALF.
BMW M Team WRT arrived in Austin with two wins and two runner-up finishes already secured in the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship season. The Lone Star Le Mans did not continue that run. BMW’s official report says the No. 15 M Hybrid V8 of Dries Vanthoor, Raffaele Marciello and Kevin Magnussen finished eighth, making it the only one of the team’s Hypercars to score points.

THE SISTER CAR’S RACE UNRAVELED.
The No. 20 Shell BMW M Hybrid V8 started fifth and ran inside the points before contact and a later technical issue complicated its race. BMW reported that Robin Frijns, Sheldon van der Linde and René Rast eventually finished outside the points. The result is a reminder that endurance racing can turn a promising grid position into a survival exercise very quickly.
THE CHAMPIONSHIP PICTURE STILL MATTERS.
The weekend was disappointing in isolation, but it did not erase the work already done. BMW says Frijns and Rast retained their lead in the Hypercar drivers’ standings. That makes Austin less of a collapse than a warning shot: the pace, execution and reliability all have to reconnect before the closing rounds.
WHAT COMES NEXT.
BMW’s report frames the result as a difficult start to the second half of the season. The useful question now is whether Austin was a track-specific stumble or the beginning of a tighter title fight. With the margins in Hypercar so small, recovering cleanly matters more than dressing eighth place up as a success.
